Find Adopters Save Dogs

Finding Your New Best Friend

HELPFUL LINKS

All the dogs at this event have had a very tough start in life. They’re here because no one wanted them and, sadly, some are here because they were abused or neglected. For that reason adopters are screened carefully to make sure the dog will go to a great home and a loving family.

While you may find the adoption

screening intrusive, please understand that it is only because we care for dogs as much as you do.

Adopting a dog who has come from a shelter is a commitment which indicates your willingness to be a part of the rescue team who has saved a life. We expect you to take this process very seriously as we take the care of each dog very seriously.

We are very strict about which rescues come into our events and the ones you see at our event weekends have agreed to allow us to review their contracts and abide by the standards of care good rescues agree to follow.

As living beings any dog whether it’s from a pet store, a breeder or a shelter can, and will, be affected by the same germs, viruses and bacteria which plague us all. Some people rescue dogs from shelters and do not pay for the necessary vetting or de-worming protocols, do not quarantine the dogs before offering them up for adoption or generally don’t follow the practices established by good and well respected rescues. We won’t work with rescues who conduct themselves in this way.

Despite careful vetting and examination dogs from shelters usually have a past which has indicated neglect or abuse. In spite of all efforts by the rescues your adopted dog may have health issues which need to be managed within the first few weeks you bring him home. Keep in mind that the rescue has a good knowledge of not only your dog but shelter dogs in general - call them if you think something is wrong.

If you are very concerned about a dog presenting with ANY health issues after an event or if you have dogs at home with existing health problems, you may want to reconsider adopting a new dog or at least speak with our on site veterinarian.  If you do decide to adopt a shelter dog we enthusiastically welcome you to the rescue team!
