Find Adopters Save Dogs
Find Adopters Save Dogs
All the dogs at this event have had a very tough start in life. They’re here because no one wanted them and, sadly, some are here because they were abused or neglected. For that reason adopters are screened carefully to make sure the dog will go to a great home and a loving family.
While you may find the adoption
screening intrusive, please understand that it is only because we care for dogs as much as you do.
PRE-SCREENED ADOPTERS – A REALLY GOOD IDEA!
You may fill in our online form to begin the screening process for adoption. While this does not assure the dog you chose will be placed with you it reduces the time you will have to wait at the event for background and reference checks. The rescues will review pre-screened adopters when the event opens at 11:00am but they will not hold dogs for anyone who is not on site. Pre-screening DOES NOT assure you of adopting the dog, it only lessens the time you need for an approval at the event. Please arrive no later than 11:00am so you can meet the dogs and their rescue owners.
• Dogs are not “held” for anyone nor does pre-screening imply you’re an approved adopter. Adopters are also not chosen “in order” but on which adopter provides the more compatible home for the personality and behavior of the dog.
TIME REQUIRED AT THE EVENT
• It will take many hours to complete the adoption process at this event, please plan accordingly. There will be food etc. for sale as well as vendors on site with dog related goods and services.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING:
• Payment
• If you rent, please know you need documentation from the property owner to show you may have a dog.
• Drivers License
•All people living in the home of the adopted dog
INTRODUCING YOU DOG FROM HOME:
• If you have another dog at home you must bring the dog to the event for a “Meet and Greet”. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY DOGS INTO THE AREA WHERE WE HAVE EVENT DOGS. The Volunteer assigned to your dog (called “Rangers”) will show you where to bring your resident dog and we’ll have our trainer bring the dog you’ve applied for to meet your in home dog.
Let the Ranger know right away when you arrive, do NOT keep your dog in the car as it will be hot this weekend. Parking for MEET AND GREET will be in a separate area from general event parking. Meet and Greets will only be arranged if you’ve been approved as an adopter by the rescue. Best if you find a dog you like, go through the approval process and THEN go home to bring your dog back for a MEET AN GREET.
PAYMENT
• Some rescues will not accept personal checks as payment for your dog, please have a credit card and cash available in case their policies deny payment by check.
ATTENDING DOGS
• Because the dogs coming into the event are required to be in quarantine for weeks before the event, it's always possible a dog may be held out of the event if he’s found to not be physically healthy.
PET INSURANCE
• We strongly suggest you invest in pet insurance for your new dog, especially for the first year. Make sure you ask the rescue who has your dog for information about buying insurance.
HOME VISITS
• If you are out of state- please note that you must be in reasonable distance from the event location as a home visit will be required after the adoption to be sure you’re all adjusting well. Distance can be a factor in the rescue's willingness to choose you as the adoptee.
